well6
The second map played was well6, 8 v 8, using QW2.3 and TF2.9 on the Zip Clan server for OZTFL and OTFCR points. Playing for Loki were Victim, Astro Boy, Goo, Mil, Fenrir, Hetzer, Mirage and Hemp (a Loki being trialled, playing his first ever game for us). Shilka's cable modem was playing up so he was unable to play, Karl and rj have gone inactive, Grimm was out watching England beat Australia at the SCG, Tetsuo was unable to play due to PC problems, and Proto, mic and Zel just failed to show up. In the end, with 8 players being unavailable for the game, we knew we were going to struggle against one of the best clans in the country. Being forced to use a player who had never played with us before and didn't know any of our strategies certainly didn't help either. :(
Since TF2.9 came in, our whole well6 approach has no longer worked. With our defense being centred on the hwguy and the hwguy being changed so drastically in TF2.9, our old defensive setup just doesn't work anymore. We made some slight modifications to it to cater for the missing hwguy, but that hasn't been enough. Too much of what we do on defence revolves around the hwguy being there, so we're going to have to rework everything to take into account the fact that the hwguy can just no longer defend the large open areas he used to be so awesome at. Hetzer has never forgiven the people who destroyed the hwguy! :-)
Anyway, the defensive line-up that we were forced to use for this game was not our usual one. It did OK but AF found a few holes through it. The TF2.9 sentry gun that didn't like laggy conditions was no help either, as a few times our flag was taken after an AF attacker had walked all the way into the flag room and then past the gun without it firing. AF attacked well together and certainly did a good job, taking full advantage of our situation.
The attacking force that we could muster for this game consisted of two people who had never attacked in well6 with us before and had no idea of our attacking strategies and form-up points, and didn't have any attacking binds. It was no surprise at all that our attack didn't have a great deal of luck in getting through the AF defence. We did get the flag down a couple of times, but never got it home. We had their flag at the end of the game, but it was all too late by then. AF defended well against what was really quite a pathetic attacking effort on our part.
Congratulations to AF on their good win under laggy conditions. We are more than keen to play them when we can get a full team together, as our effort on this occasion was certainly well below what we are capable of when people actually turn up.
Map score: AF 60, Loki 0.
Game score: AF won 1-0.
