2fort5

We had heard much about XF's successes in TF and knew that we would be up against the best clan we had faced so far. We had been told that at least half of XF had incredible pings and, more importantly, that they were an extremely good side. A recent XF win over FTB certainly confirmed this.

The game was scheduled to be played at 8:30pm on the Ground Zero server. We all rolled up on time, only to find that there were no XF players there. Cpt Cadaver assured us that they would turn up. We waited for a while but still no XF players. Having been so psyched up for the match, we were now pretty disappointed at the XF no-show. Thinking that there was no game on, Mic left. Eventually contact was made with some XF players who said they thought the game was at 9:30pm! They asked us if we could wait for them, which we agreed to do.

Anyway, the XF players finally arrived and the first map, 2fort5, was begun a little while later, 8 v 8. Playing initially for Loki were Z, Hetzer, Fenrir, Victim, Strafe, Karl, Grimm and rj. Mic and Mil both were used during the game to cover for dropped players. Proto and Tetsuo were both unavailable. Shilka spectated the match.

Unfortunately, the long delay at the beginning of the game meant that a number of us hit the 2 hour logon limit during the game. Hetzer dropped at the worst possible time, just as the game itself was starting. This led to some initial confusion amongst the defenders and, combined with the fact that Fenrir didn't realise that the game had started (silly Fen!), our initial defence began in a very disorganised fashion. Mil substituted in for Hetzer, but too late to help prevent the first capture. XF capitalised on our turmoil and forced their way in for a second capture. At this point, we got ourselves in order for a while, until Fenrir and Grimm both dropped. Mic and Hetzer came in, but the player dropouts and the subsequent swapping around of positions caused our defence to become disorganised again, leading to another three XF captures. Fenrir made it back in, Hetzer returned to his normal position and for the rest of the match we were able to hang on to prevent our key from being captured again.

Unfortunately, our attackers found the XF defence to be extremely strong. Inadequate co-ordination of our attacks certainly didn't help our cause at all. We did manage to take the flag a few times, but we were never able to escape very far with it.

During the game, Victim somehow changed clans twice. After starting off OK in Loki, he soon ended up in CN. Not long after, old Victim [MDT] popped up and played for the rest of the game. Vic, please fix your bindings. :-)

Congratulations must go to XF for their superb displays of teamwork and skill. Whilst we were disappointed with the result, we felt that we didn't do too badly under the conditions, and we certainly learnt a few things from the game. This game was our first match against one of the top clans in the country and it highlighted a few areas that we need to work on.

Thanks to XF for a great game.

Map result: XF 50, Loki 0.
